In Retrospect....

Perhaps I should have explained NICK LOWE'S underwear when I posted it. 

In 1986 (yes, 22 years ago), just before Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello played at Duke on the "Wheel of Fortune" tour, a friend dared me to write Nick a letter. I had been smitten with the excellent song stylings of Mr. Lowe for some time AND I'm a sucker for a dare, I guess.

The gist of it was that I would invite him to meet us for dinner before the show, oh, and by the way, if he couldn't make it to just send me his underwear, since that's all most of us want from our rock stars, anyway.

A short time before the concert....I got the underwear.

This is a hard one to explain, but I do have Nick Lowe's underwear...

I was never fortunate enough to meet him, although we saw him recently at the Artcenter in Carrboro, NC...however, my good friend Mary, got him to sign this Rockpile album so long ago, for me and I am forever grateful!

We spent a wonderful evening with Ed and Ronda in Winston-Salem listening to Nick and XTC and John Hiatt and Elvis Costello and a lot of great music! (And fantastic jambalaya ala Ed!) and then I was so surprised to get home and find an email from my old friend, Mary!

Karma, I say.
