Being "Downsized"

I'm one of the statistics! I was the last hired in my department at a publishing company and the first to be let go. My last day at work is Oct. 31.

I'm not as upset yet as I probably should be. I do have a lot of freelance to keep me busy and one very good bit of news is that Millicent at Urban Artware, a great gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, has put a bunch of my pieces in her shop!

I do hope to find another full time position soon....I do better when I'm busy!

Wilmington Weekend!

Just a quick post to get you in the Halloween spirit a little early!

In such a haunted town they take Halloween very seriously....

Glass Class

I've been in class all day with Brad and Jody Walker at warmglass.com in Clemmons, NC....the class is about working beyond 2 layers of glass. These are some of the pattern bars that the class put together....

And this is a 6 layer piece, all dammed up, of just sheet glass. Can't wait until tomorrow to see how they turned out!

2008 Artstock Studio Tour

My friend, Leanne Pizio has invited me to put some of my fused glass jewelry in her show at her studio this weekend!

She has moved to a house and a new studio just 2 houses behind the old one. Look for the signs and red balloons out by the driveway. She has her own fabulous pottery, sculpture, and paintings, as well as jewelry by Diane Owens and pottery by Lisa Skeen.

October Snake

This little guy (only about 14" long) was out yesterday morning and moving pretty slow, so I was able to get some good photos of him. I think he's a juvenile black rat snake, but if anyone else has any ideas, let me know!

Cutting Up

This weekend I tried out my new glass cutting blade. These are cut from larger sampler/test pieces I've been doing. I like the nice clean square edges so much I think I'll just fire polish them and keep that nice shape.

These pieces are cut from a large piece that I created by kiln raking in one of Brad Walker's classes (warmglass.com). I'm not sure what I'm doing with them yet, but it's amazing how the glass looks so different when it's cut.

Starting a Blog!

I'm starting this blog to chronicle my ever-expanding glass fusing obsession and to post pretty pictures....case in point, this butterfly in my Mom's garden. I believe he is a Great Spangled Fritillary
